Crayo Review & Pricing (2026): The Middle Tier Is The Only One Priced Correctly

A hands-on Crayo review with the pricing worked through: three tiers, six separate meters, and a per-credit rate that gets worse when you upgrade from Clipper to Pro. What the product genuinely does well, the voiceover ceiling nobody notices, and the 3.2 Trustpilot score. Verified 2026-09-10.

Prices and limits last verified against the vendor on 2026-09-10.

This page covers the review and the pricing together, because Crayo's pricing is where most of the judgement lives — six separate meters across three tiers, with a per-credit rate that gets worse on the top plan. The ranked shortlist of substitutes lives on the Crayo alternatives page; what follows is the evaluation.

The Verdict In One Paragraph

Crayo is a well-built, unusually broad faceless-video factory that does exactly what it says: Reddit stories, fake-text conversations, split-screen gameplay, streamer clips and auto-clipped highlights, with a large utility belt bolted on. For a creator running a faceless channel at volume, the 27 USD/month Clipper tier is honestly good value and there is not much else that packages this set at this price. The problems are commercial rather than technical — no free plan, no refunds, and a top tier that costs more per unit than the tier below it — plus a Trustpilot profile whose complaints cluster on billing rather than on output. Buy Clipper. Do not buy Pro expecting a discount, and do not buy any of it expecting to test it first.

The Pricing

The published table

All three tiers, read off the pricing page on 2026-09-10. The page renders annual billing by default, so these are the annual-commitment figures; Crayo states annual saves 30 percent, which means month-to-month is meaningfully higher than the per-month column below.

There is no free plan and no free trial on the page. Enterprise is a [email protected] email with no published price, and a Developer API is linked in the footer without pricing.

The rate gets worse when you upgrade

This is the finding worth the page. A workflow credit is defined by Crayo as one auto-edited video, so credits are the closest thing to a unit of output. Dividing the annual price by twelve and then by monthly credits:

PlanAnnual cost / moCredits / moCost per creditCost per export minute
Hobby13.33 USD500.27 USD0.33 USD
Clipper27.25 USD1500.18 USD0.23 USD
Pro55.33 USD2500.22 USD0.23 USD

The curve is not monotonic. Clipper is the cheapest per video, and Pro is about 22 percent more expensive per credit than the tier beneath it. Volume pricing normally improves as you climb; here it improves once and then reverses. That is not necessarily cynical — Pro is bundling 500 GB of storage, 10 tracked social accounts and headroom rather than selling raw credits — but it does mean the upgrade decision is a feature and ceiling decision, never a unit-economics one. Anyone upgrading to Pro to "get cheaper videos" is doing the opposite.

The meter that actually binds is voiceover

Six meters run in parallel and the plan ends when the first one empties. Line the two output meters up:

PlanExport minutesVoiceover minutesWhich runs out first
Hobby4030Voiceover, with 10 export minutes stranded
Clipper120120Balanced
Pro240180Voiceover, with 60 export minutes stranded

Crayo's flagship formats — Reddit story videos, fake texts — are narrated by construction. If every video you make has an AI voiceover, Hobby's real capacity is 30 minutes of finished video, not 40, and Pro's is 180, not 240. Clipper is the only tier where the two meters are tuned to each other, which is a second, independent reason it is the plan to buy.

The credit-to-minute ratio tells the same story: Hobby and Clipper both allow 0.8 export minutes per credit, meaning Crayo is modelling a 48-second video. If yours run longer than that, export minutes bind before credits do and the per-credit table above flatters your real cost.

Terms worth reading before you commit

Three items from Crayo's own FAQ, quoted:

"Subscription credits reset at the start of each billing cycle and don't roll over. Credits from one-time top-ups are separate from your monthly allowance."

"Unfortunately, we do not offer refunds. You can cancel your plan anytime and your plan will remain active until the end of the billing cycle."

"Yes. You fully own the rights to the videos you create with Crayo."

The ownership clause is a genuine positive and not universal in this category. The refund clause combined with the absence of a free tier is the one to weigh: there is no sanctioned way to evaluate Crayo without paying, and no way to undo the payment. If you are going to try it, try it on a monthly Hobby subscription, not on an annual Pro one.

The Review

What Crayo genuinely does well

The format library is the product, and it is a real one. Reddit story videos, fake-text conversations, split-screen gameplay, streamer clips and auto-clipping are first-class templates rather than things you assemble from primitives. Most "AI video" tools give you a generic timeline and leave the viral grammar as an exercise for the user. Crayo shipped the grammar.

The utility belt is unusually broad for the price. 15+ subtitle styles, AI voiceovers, a voice changer, face swap, subtitle remover, background removal, speech enhancer, vocal and instrumental separation, AI image generation, an idea brainstormer and a YouTube/TikTok downloader. Individually none of these is remarkable; collectively, at 27 USD/month, replacing them with point tools would cost more.

Credits are legible. Crayo publishes what a credit is — one auto-edited video — which means you can budget the tool exactly from the pricing page. A surprising number of competitors never disclose their credits-to-video exchange rate, and comparing against them requires guesswork that Crayo does not.

It is honest about the input. "Any file, or a YouTube/TikTok link" is the real workflow for clippers, and supporting it directly rather than pretending everyone arrives with clean source footage is a point in its favour.

What it does not do

It has no idea whether anything worked. Crayo tracks 1 to 10 social accounts depending on tier, which is publishing analytics. Nothing in the product reads an ad account, spend, or conversions. For organic publishing this is fine — the feedback is public and immediate. For paid social it is the entire problem, and it is why a clipping tool is structurally the wrong purchase for ad creative no matter how good the clips are.

It is not an editor. The Advanced video editor arrives on Clipper, but this is template-and-parameter work, not multi-layer compositing, keyframing or frame-level correction. Teams that expect an editor and buy a generator are the most reliably disappointed group in this category.

Templates are shared by construction. Every user draws on the same viral formats. That is precisely why the output performs organically, and precisely why unmodified output does not differentiate a brand. Customisation effort is not optional if the video represents a company rather than a channel.

There is no way in without paying. Covered above, but it belongs in the limitations list. No free tier, no trial, no refunds.

The Trustpilot problem

On 2026-09-10 Crayo's Trustpilot profile shows a TrustScore of 3.2 from 186 reviews, with the distribution split roughly 52 percent 5-star and 39 percent 1-star. That barbell shape is diagnostic: it is not a mediocre product, it is a product that fully satisfies its intended user and fully fails everyone else.

The recurring theme in the negative reviews is not video quality. It is billing, cancellation and unresponsive support — reviewers describing charges after attempting to cancel, and support tickets going unanswered. One representative recent entry reads simply:

"Nothing works. No sound on auto-clips. It's a shit cutting tool. And no customer communication."

Positive reviews also mention support by name when it goes well, which suggests the coverage is inconsistent rather than absent. We could not verify any individual billing dispute and we are not asserting the platform's conduct in any of them. What we can say is that the complaints cluster in a specific place, and that this cluster interacts badly with a no-refund policy on annual plans. Weigh that before choosing annual over monthly.

Who should not buy Crayo

Three groups. Low-volume makers, because 50 credits a month at 0.27 USD each is the worst rate in the ladder and a handful of videos does not justify a subscription. Anyone who needs editorial control, because this is a template engine and no tier changes that. And anyone whose clips are paid ads, because Crayo will help you produce more of whatever is not converting and cannot tell you that it is not converting — which is the case where the honest recommendation is a different category of tool entirely, one that sits on the ad account rather than on the export button.

For the ranked list of substitutes by reason-for-leaving, see Crayo alternatives. If your comparison is against other clip-finders rather than format generators, Opus Clip and Submagic are the two closest neighbours.

The Verdict

Crayo is good at a narrow, real job and priced with one clear error. If you run a faceless channel and publish at volume, buy Clipper — it is the cheapest per video, it is the only tier where export and voiceover minutes are balanced against each other, and it unlocks the advanced editor. Do not buy Hobby unless you are deliberately testing, because there is no cheaper way to test and the rate is poor. Do not buy Pro unless you have specifically hit the storage or social-account ceilings, because you will pay about 22 percent more per video for the privilege.

And if the videos are advertising rather than content, the tier question is the wrong question. Nothing on this page changes the fact that Crayo ends at the export button, and paid creative that nobody measures is expensive at any price per credit.
