Best Copy.ai Alternatives for Ad Copy (2026)
The best Copy.ai alternatives for ad copy, grouped by why people leave: ad-specific features, a plain chat window, outgrowing 5 seats, or copy that has to go live and be tested. Prices read 2026-10-21.
Copy.ai was the tool a lot of marketers first used for AI ad copy: pick a template, describe the product, get ten Facebook headlines. That product doesn't exist any more. Copy.ai now sells itself as "the first AI-native GTM platform", and the six use cases on its homepage are prospecting, content creation, inbound lead processing, account-based marketing, translation, and deal coaching. Ads aren't one of them. Its own help center says the old Tools and Templates were discontinued and replaced by Chat with a prompt library.
So most people searching for a Copy.ai alternative aren't leaving because it broke. They're leaving because the product moved toward sales teams while their job stayed the same: write ad copy, get it live, find out what worked. This page groups the alternatives by why you're leaving. Each group has a first pick and an alternative, and Soku, which publishes this page, appears in one group only, and not as the first pick.
Every price below was read from the vendor's own pricing page on 2026-10-21, logged out, in USD. Copy.ai's full plan table, its help-center rules on credits and refunds, and our hands-on test of its free ad tools are on the Copy.ai review and pricing page. This page doesn't repeat them.
What was and wasn't hands-on. On 2026-10-21 we ran Copy.ai's free, public ad-copy tools seven times; the results are summarised below and quoted in full in the review. We did not buy Copy.ai's paid Chat plan, and we didn't pay for or test any of the alternatives on this page. Everything about them comes from their published prices and documentation.
The Short Answer
| Why you're leaving Copy.ai | First pick | Also consider | Entry price (verified 2026-10-21) |
|---|---|---|---|
| You want a tool built for ad copy | Anyword | Jasper | Anyword $49/mo; Jasper Pro $69/seat/mo |
| You only used Copy.ai Chat as a chat window | Claude Team | ChatGPT Business | Both $25/seat/mo billed monthly ($20 annually) |
| Your team grew past 5 seats | Anyword Data-Driven | Claude or ChatGPT seats | Anyword $99/mo for 3 seats + $59 per extra seat |
| The copy has to go live and be tested | Meta and Google's built-in generators | Soku | No separate fee listed; Soku free plan, paid from $19/mo |
| You're a sales or RevOps team | Stay on Copy.ai | Ask Copy.ai about Growth | Growth $1,000/mo, billed $12,000/yr |
If you want one sentence: for a team of up to five, Copy.ai Chat is still the cheapest seat on this page, so leave because of the product, not the price. The price problem only starts at the sixth seat.
The Original Bit: What Your Team Actually Pays
Copy.ai's pricing is unusual. Most writing tools charge per seat. Copy.ai's Chat plan charges a flat $29 a month for up to five seats, and then the next plan on its pricing page is Growth, at $1,000 a month billed annually for 75 seats. There is no published plan in between.
That makes "is Copy.ai expensive?" a question with no single answer. So we worked out what the same team would pay at four headcounts, taking the cheapest published plan that covers everyone, at monthly billing.
| Team size | Copy.ai | ChatGPT | Claude | Anyword | Jasper |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 person | $29 (Chat) | $20 (Plus) | $20 (Pro) | $49 (Starter) | $69 (Pro) |
| 3 people | $29 (Chat) | $75 (Business, 3 × $25) | $75 (Team, 3 × $25) | $99 (Data-Driven, 3 seats included) | Business: quote only |
| 5 people | $29 (Chat) | $125 | $125 | $217 ($99 + 2 × $59) | Business: quote only |
| 10 people | $1,000 (Growth, billed $12,000/yr) | $250 | $250 | $512 ($99 + 7 × $59) | Business: quote only |
How each number was worked out:
- Copy.ai (copy.ai/prices): Chat is $29 a month billed monthly, or $24 a month billed $288 a year, and lists "5 Seat". Growth is $1,000 a month, "Billed $12,000/yr", with 75 seats and 20K workflow credits a month. The 10-person figure assumes you buy Growth, because nothing published sits between the two.
- ChatGPT (openai.com/chatgpt/pricing and openai.com/business/chatgpt-pricing): Plus is $20 a month and designed for individuals. Business is for teams of 2 to 200, with a standard seat at $25 a month billed monthly or $20 billed annually.
- Claude (claude.com/pricing): Pro is $20 a month billed monthly ($17 a month annually). Team is for 2 to 150 people, with a standard seat at $25 a month billed monthly or $20 annually.
- Anyword (anyword.com/pricing): Starter is $49 a month ($39 annually) with 1 seat. Data-Driven is $99 a month ($79 annually) with 3 seats. Extra seats cost $59 a month, or $49 yearly, up to 10 seats.
- Jasper (jasper.ai/pricing): Pro is $69 a month billed monthly ($59 yearly) and "Includes 1 seat". Business has custom pricing, so we don't give a team figure.
What this shows:
- Up to five people, Copy.ai Chat is the cheapest seat on the page. $29 for five seats is $5.80 a seat. The general-purpose chat apps cost more than four times as much per seat at the same headcount.
- The sixth seat costs $11,652 a year more. Going from five people to six moves you from Chat ($348 a year at monthly billing) to Growth ($12,000 a year). Copy.ai's help center still describes an Agents plan at $249 a month for up to 10 seats, but that article is marked stale and the plan isn't on the live pricing page. If you're at six to ten people, ask Copy.ai whether Agents is still sold before you assume the $12,000 figure.
- Per-seat tools scale in a straight line. Claude and ChatGPT cost exactly the same at every headcount we checked. Anyword gets expensive faster because it includes performance predictions, the feature you'd be paying it for.
- This is a price chart, not a quality chart. It tells you what a seat costs, not which product writes better ads. We didn't test the paid versions of any of these tools.
Our Hands-On Test of Copy.ai's Free Ad Tools, in Brief
Copy.ai still publishes free, no-login writing tools at copy.ai/tools, and each one runs on a Copy.ai Workflow, the same engine its paid plans sell. On 2026-10-21 we ran the four tools closest to ad work, seven times in total, with the same product: the Allbirds Tree Runner sneaker.
- The Ad Copy Generator for Google Ads, which scrapes a landing page and writes headlines and descriptions, failed all four runs, on two different sites. Each time it read the page, then stopped with "Error generating text".
- The Hook Generator and the Call to Action Generator both finished, but returned a prompt for another AI ("You are an expert copywriter…") instead of hooks or CTAs.
- The AI Facebook Post Writer worked. Asked for primary text under 125 characters plus a headline, it returned a 123-character primary text and a 30-character headline in about 5 seconds, although it printed the primary text twice.
That's one usable ad from seven runs. It says something about how much attention Copy.ai is paying to its ad-copy surface. It doesn't tell you how the paid Chat plan writes, which is a multi-model chat (OpenAI, Anthropic and Gemini models) that we didn't buy. The full inputs, outputs and timings are in the review.
1. You Want a Tool Built for Ad Copy
Best for: performance marketers and freelancers who write ads every week and want the tool to know what an ad is: its formats, its limits, and what tends to work.
Copy.ai can write ad copy if you ask it to, but you're working in a general chat window or building a workflow yourself. These two alternatives are built around marketing copy.
Anyword: when you want a score before you spend
Price (anyword.com/pricing, 2026-10-21): Starter is $49 a month, or $39 billed yearly, with 1 seat, unlimited copy generation, 50 performance predictions, 50 performance data rows, 1 brand voice, 100+ marketing templates and prompts, and a Chrome extension. Data-Driven is $99 a month ($79 yearly) with 3 seats, 100 predictions and real-time predictions as you edit. Business is custom-priced, with 250 predictions, 5,000 performance data rows from your connected marketing channels, and automated website messaging A/B tests. Enterprise is custom. Starter and Data-Driven offer a 7-day free trial.
Why it fits Copy.ai leavers: Anyword is the one tool on this page that still treats ad copy as its main job. Its pitch is a predicted performance score attached to each variant before you launch it. Copy generation is unlimited on every plan; the metered resource is the predictions, which is what you're paying for.
Pick it if: you choose between several variants every week and want a second opinion before spending money.
Skip it if: you'd ignore the score anyway. Then you're paying $49 to $99 a month for a writing interface. Our Anyword alternatives page covers where its prediction caps bite.
Jasper: when brand control matters more than price
Price (jasper.ai/pricing, 2026-10-21): Pro is $69 a month billed monthly, or $59 billed yearly, and includes 1 seat, "agents for core marketing workflows", 2 Brand Voices, 5 Knowledge assets and 3 Audiences. Business has custom pricing and adds agents for GEO, translation and deep research, a no-code builder for custom agents, and unlimited Brand Voices, Knowledge and Audiences. The pricing page lists "100+ purpose-built marketing agents" and links to a free trial.
Why it fits: Jasper and Copy.ai started as the same kind of product, and Jasper stayed with marketing teams while Copy.ai moved toward revenue operations. When we compared them on 2026-10-09, Jasper's agent library named agents for search ads, social ads and video ad scripts; Copy.ai's ad path was general Chat prompts.
Pick it if: you need several brand voices, a shared style guide, and ad-format agents.
Skip it if: you're more than one person and don't want a sales call. Jasper Pro is one seat, and teams are pointed to Business. See Jasper alternatives and our Jasper vs Copy.ai comparison.
2. You Only Used Copy.ai Chat as a Chat Window
Best for: small teams whose Copy.ai use had shrunk to "open Chat, paste a brief, ask for ten headlines".
Copy.ai's Chat plan advertises unlimited words, unlimited projects and access to OpenAI, Anthropic and Gemini models. If that is all you use, you're paying Copy.ai for access to models you can also buy from their makers. This group is the honest answer for many leavers, and also the one where Copy.ai is hardest to beat on price.
Claude Team: when you want one workspace for the team
Price (claude.com/pricing, 2026-10-21): Free for individuals. Pro is $20 a month billed monthly, or $17 a month billed annually ($200 a year). Team is for 2 to 150 people: a standard seat is $25 a month billed monthly or $20 annually, and a premium seat with 5 times more usage is $125 monthly or $100 annually. Team adds central billing, single sign-on, and no model training on your content by default.
Why it fits: it's a direct replacement for a chat-only Copy.ai seat, with Projects for keeping a brand brief and past winners in one place.
Pick it if: your team is two or three people and you also use the chat for work beyond ads.
Skip it if: you're five people who only write ad copy; Copy.ai Chat's $29 covers all five, and Claude Team would cost $125.
ChatGPT Business: the same deal from OpenAI
Price (openai.com/chatgpt/pricing and openai.com/business/chatgpt-pricing, 2026-10-21): Free ($0), Go ($8 a month, which "may include ads"), Plus ($20), and Pro (from $100) for individuals. Business is for teams of 2 to 200, with a standard seat at $25 a month billed monthly or $20 annually, and a premium seat at $125 monthly or $100 annually.
Why it fits: same reasoning as Claude. Which one writes your ads better is something to test with your own briefs; we haven't.
Pick it if: your team already uses ChatGPT for other work.
Skip it if: the chat window was never the problem. A cheaper chat window won't fix ad copy that doesn't perform.
3. Your Team Grew Past Five Seats
Best for: teams of 6 to 10 that write ad copy and can't justify a $12,000 annual contract.
Copy.ai's live pricing has nothing between Chat (5 seats) and Growth (75 seats). That gap is the most common pricing reason to leave.
Anyword Data-Driven: when the seats are for copywriters
Data-Driven is $99 a month for 3 seats, with extra seats at $59 a month ($49 yearly), up to 10. Ten people cost $512 a month, or $422 a month at the yearly rates ($79 + 7 × $49), which is $5,064 a year. That's well under Copy.ai Growth's $12,000, and every seat gets an ad-copy tool rather than a GTM platform.
Claude or ChatGPT seats: when the seats are for everyone
Ten standard seats on either Claude Team or ChatGPT Business cost $250 a month billed monthly, or $200 a month billed annually. That's the cheapest way to give ten people an AI writing seat on this page, but it's a general assistant, not an ad tool.
Before you leave over this: ask Copy.ai about the Agents plan its help center still lists at $249 a month for up to 10 seats and 10K workflow credits. If it's still sold, it changes this whole section. We couldn't confirm it, because it isn't on copy.ai/prices.
4. The Copy Has to Go Live and Get Tested
Best for: advertisers for whom writing was never the slow part. The slow part is getting variants into the ad account, waiting for results, and deciding what to change.
None of the tools above touch your ad account. Copy.ai's workflows connect to CRM and GTM systems, not to ad platforms, and its pricing page doesn't list Meta, Google or TikTok ad accounts. These options write the copy where the ad runs.
Meta and Google's built-in generators: the free first step
Meta (Advantage+ creative help page, read 2026-10-21): text generation is "available in Meta Ads Manager, Facebook Page and Meta Business Suite", "can generate up to 5 variations of primary text and headline", and can generate variations using personas. If the branding feature is on, Meta says it will try to use your brand preferences.
Google (Google Ads Help, "How to build a Performance Max asset group using generative AI", read 2026-10-21): you enter a landing page URL, and Google AI generates headlines, long headlines and descriptions, and suggests images, which you review and select. You can prompt for more headlines or descriptions. Eligibility depends on interface language (English, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Portuguese or Spanish) and on the URL; sensitive categories and recently published pages may not be eligible.
Why it fits: the copy is written inside the tool that will run and measure the ad, at no separate charge listed on either help page. This is what we'd try first.
Limits worth knowing: both write for their own platform only. And when Meta first launched text variations, it said it wouldn't report performance for each individual text variation; check whether that still holds for your ad format before relying on it to pick winners.
Soku: when you want one agent across ad accounts
What it is: Soku, which publishes this page, is an AI marketing agent, not a writing tool.
What it does for ad copy:
- You describe the product or offer in chat and the agent drafts ad text. Its Google Ads knowledge base has Google's asset limits built in (headlines up to 30 characters, at least one of them 15 or fewer; long headlines and descriptions up to 90).
- It can create, change or copy campaigns on Google, Meta and TikTok, including creating ads and text assets, and asks you to confirm before it changes anything.
- It writes daily or weekly performance reports for Google, Meta and TikTok, with trends, breakdowns and recommended next steps, so the next round of copy starts from what happened.
What it doesn't do, compared with Copy.ai: no GTM workflows for prospecting, lead enrichment or CRM updates; no long-form content library; no predicted performance score like Anyword's. If your Copy.ai use was blog posts or sales emails, Soku is the wrong replacement.
Price (Soku's published plans, 2026-10-21): a free plan for chat and agent work, limited to 1 brand and 1 member. Creator is $19 a month ($180 a year) with 7,000 credits for one member. Starter is $49 a month ($468 a year) for up to 5 members, and Pro is $249 a month ($2,388 a year).
Pick it if: you run ads on more than one platform and want the writing, the launch and the reporting in one conversation.
Skip it if: you only need text, or only advertise on one platform. Meta's or Google's own generator is the simpler choice.
5. You're a Sales or RevOps Team
Best for: organisations that came to Copy.ai for prospecting research, inbound lead processing, CRM enrichment or deal coaching.
Stay on Copy.ai
This is what Copy.ai is now built for. Its homepage leads with the Prospecting Cockpit, inbound lead processing and deal coaching, and claims 2,000+ integrations. Its annual plans are sized for revenue teams: Growth at $1,000 a month (75 seats, 20K workflow credits), Expansion at $2,000 (150 seats, 45K credits) and Scale at $3,000 (200 seats, 75K credits). Enterprise is custom and adds API access and bulk workflow runs. None of the writing tools above are like-for-like replacements.
Ask about Growth before you buy it
Workflow credits are the unit you're really buying, and Copy.ai's pricing page says a credit's value "depends on the complexity of the tasks performed". Its help center says credits are pooled across the workspace, reset monthly and don't roll over, and that test runs while building a workflow don't use credits. Before signing a $12,000 contract, run your real workflows during evaluation and read the "Credits used" figure for each run, which Copy.ai shows in the run's side panel.
When to Stay on Copy.ai for Ad Copy
Stay if most of these are true:
- You're two to five people and you mostly need a multi-model chat. $29 a month for the team is very hard to beat.
- You've trained Content Agent Studio on your best ads. Copy.ai's help center describes it as the way to produce "the same type of content regularly" from at least three examples, and it can be called from workflows.
- Your ad copy is one step in a larger GTM workflow, for example account-based campaigns where research, copy and outreach run together.
- You read the refund rules first. Copy.ai's help center gives a 5-day money-back window from the first charge and says you can't switch from yearly to monthly billing without contacting support. Several recent Trustpilot reviews (Copy.ai's overall rating was 1.8 out of 5 on 2026-10-21) describe trouble cancelling. Paying monthly until you're sure is the cautious choice.
Who We Left Out, and Why
- AdCreative.ai: its pricing page returned "Page Not Found" on 2026-10-21, so we couldn't verify a current price. See our AdCreative.ai alternatives page for what it does.
- Writesonic and similar AI writers: their pricing didn't render in a form we could verify on 2026-10-21, and they compete with Copy.ai on blog content more than on ads.
- Clay and other GTM data tools: they compete with Copy.ai's sales workflows, not its copywriting, which is outside this page's scope.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best alternative to Copy.ai for ad copy?
It depends on why you're leaving. If you want a tool built around ad copy, Anyword is the closest fit: every plan includes unlimited copy generation, and it scores copy with performance predictions before launch (Starter $49 a month, 50 predictions). Jasper has more marketing agents and brand controls, at $69 per seat a month for its one-seat Pro plan. If you only used Copy.ai Chat as a chat window, Claude Team or ChatGPT Business cost $25 per seat a month. If the copy has to go live and be tested, Meta and Google generate ad text inside their own ad tools. All prices read on each vendor's page on 2026-10-21.
Is Copy.ai still good for writing ads?
It can still write ad copy, but it is no longer built around it. Copy.ai now calls itself "the first AI-native GTM platform", and its homepage lists six use cases (prospecting, content creation, inbound lead processing, account-based marketing, translation, and deal coaching), none of them ads. Its help center says the old Tools and Templates were discontinued and replaced by Chat with a prompt library. On 2026-10-21 we ran Copy.ai's free, public ad-copy tools seven times: its Google Ads generator failed all four runs, two tools returned a prompt instead of copy, and one produced a usable Facebook ad. That was the free tools, not the paid Chat plan.
Is there a free Copy.ai alternative?
Yes, with limits. ChatGPT has a free plan, and Claude has a free plan, both of which will write ad copy. Meta's text generation, which writes up to 5 variations of primary text and headline, and Google's asset generation in Performance Max are part of each platform's ad tools, with no separate fee listed. Copy.ai itself has no free plan: its help center says "there is no longer a free plan (we had to sunset it)", although new accounts get 200 bonus workflow credits.
Is there a cheaper alternative to Copy.ai?
Not for a team of 2 to 5. Copy.ai Chat is $29 a month for up to 5 seats, which works out at $5.80 per seat; ChatGPT Business and Claude Team are $25 per seat billed monthly, so three people cost $75. For one person, ChatGPT Plus and Claude Pro are $20 a month. Past 5 people the picture flips: Copy.ai's next published plan is Growth at $1,000 a month billed $12,000 a year, while 10 seats of Claude Team or ChatGPT Business cost $250 a month and Anyword Data-Driven with 7 extra seats costs $512.
Is Jasper or Copy.ai better for ad copy?
On published features, Jasper is closer to ad work. Its pricing page lists 100+ purpose-built marketing agents, Brand Voices, Knowledge assets and Audiences, and our Jasper vs Copy.ai comparison found named agents for search, social and video ads. Copy.ai's ad path is general Chat prompts or a Workflow you build yourself. Copy.ai is far cheaper for a small team: $29 a month for 5 seats against Jasper Pro at $69 for one seat. Neither one launches ads or reports on how they performed.
Can any Copy.ai alternative test which ad copy works?
Some can, in different ways. Anyword predicts performance before launch and, on its custom Business plan, learns from up to 5,000 rows of your past campaign data. Meta's Advantage+ creative can show different text combinations to different people while the ad runs. Soku connects to Google, Meta and TikTok ad accounts, creates or changes campaigns after you approve the change, and reports on results. Copy.ai and Jasper stop at the text.
Is Soku a Copy.ai replacement?
Only if your Copy.ai work was ad copy that you then pasted into an ad account. Soku is an AI marketing agent, not a writing tool: it drafts ads in chat, can create or modify campaigns on Google, Meta and TikTok after you confirm, and writes daily or weekly performance reports. It has no Copy.ai-style GTM workflows for prospecting, lead enrichment or CRM, and no long-form content library. A free plan covers chat and agent work; paid plans start at $19 a month (Creator) and $49 (Starter, up to 5 members).
