SpyFu Review (2026): Pricing, Limits, and How Accurate It Really Is
A documentation-based SpyFu review with the full 2026 price table (Basic, Pro + AI, Team), plan limits, and a check of SpyFu's free estimates for our own domain against Google Search Console. Last updated 2026-10-12.
Prices and limits last verified against the vendor on 2026-10-12.
This page is an evaluation, not a list of substitutes. The ranked alternatives, grouped by why teams leave, are on the SpyFu alternatives page. Here we answer two questions: what does SpyFu cost and what do you get at each tier, and how close are its numbers to reality for a domain whose real data we can see.
How We Evaluated This
Stated up front, because it decides how much weight to give the verdict:
- We did not buy SpyFu. We had no paid account, so we can't report on logged-in tools, export quality, the API or support.
- We read SpyFu's own documents on 2026-10-12: the pricing page and its plan comparison, and the help center articles on data accuracy, update frequency and country coverage.
- We ran one real check. SpyFu's domain overview loads without logging in. We opened it for our own domain, soku.ai, on 2026-10-12 and compared the organic estimates with our Google Search Console data for September 2026. Details and caveats are below.
- We didn't grade the paid search estimates. We don't publish our own Google Ads spend, so a comparison would be unverifiable. We say what SpyFu showed and leave it there.
SpyFu Pricing (Last Updated 2026-10-12)
All prices from SpyFu's pricing page, read on 2026-10-12, in USD. SpyFu calls the annual discount "3 months free (25% savings)."
| Plan | Monthly billing | Annual billing | Billed per year | Users included | Extra user |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | $39/mo | $29/mo | $348 | 1 | $15 |
| Pro + AI | $59 first month, then $119/mo | $89/mo | $1,068 | 1 | $30 |
| Team / Agency | $249/mo | $187/mo | $2,244 | 5 | $30 |
SpyFu's plan comparison lists the $15 and $30 extra-user prices without saying whether they're monthly; check at checkout. One inconsistency: SpyFu's product pages carry a banner saying "Membership starts at just $33/month," which matches neither Basic price on the pricing page. We use the pricing page figures.
What a year costs, from the table:
- Basic: $348 billed yearly, or $468 paid monthly for 12 months.
- Pro + AI: $1,068 billed yearly, or $1,368 paid monthly for the first 12 months ($59 + 11 × $119). The $59 first month is a promotion on monthly billing only.
- Team / Agency: $2,244 billed yearly, or $2,988 paid monthly.
- Five people: if extra users are billed monthly, Pro + AI with 4 extra users is $89 + 4 × $30 = $209 a month on annual billing, while Team / Agency includes 5 users for $187. At five seats, Team / Agency is the cheaper plan and has higher limits.
What Each Plan Includes
| Limit | Basic | Pro + AI | Team / Agency |
|---|---|---|---|
| Domain, keyword, backlink and competitor search results | 10k rows | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| Data exports | 10k rows | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| 10+ years of ad history | No | Yes | Yes |
| Organic ranking history | No | Yes | Yes |
| Live site tracking projects | 1 | 10 | Unlimited |
| Weekly tracked keyword rankings | 5,000 | 15,000 | 50,000 |
| Automated reports | 10 | 100 | Unlimited |
| Site audit crawl pages per month | 50k | 500k | 2M |
| Site audit AI credits per month | 1,000 | 5,000 | 10,000 |
| Connected sites (audit) | 1 | 3 | 5 |
| Pre-built Google Ads campaigns | No | Yes | Yes |
| Search Console integration | No | Yes | Yes |
| White-label reporting | No | Yes | Yes |
| API access | No | Yes, $40 of credits included | Yes, $100 of credits included |
| ChatGPT integration | 3 chats | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| RivalFlow AI (sites) | 0 | 1 | 5 |
| Sales lead exports | 250 | 500 | 1,000 |
The Basic plan's 10,000-row cap applies to each search result type and to exports. For one small competitor that's plenty; for a large retailer, the paid keyword list alone can pass it.
What SpyFu's Data Is, According to SpyFu
SpyFu's accuracy article is unusually direct about method, and it's the key to using the tool well:
- What's observed: for each keyword, SpyFu says it gathers "the first 100 organic results" and "ads from the first page of results," noting the advertiser, ad copy and landing page, and keeps cached copies of the results pages it captured. When SpyFu says a domain advertised on a keyword at a given time, it can show the screenshot.
- What's estimated: "The figures like costs, search volume and number of clicks are estimates that come from other sources," including Google's keyword tools.
- How it errs: SpyFu says that when it's wrong, "we're consistently wrong in an industry," and recommends calibrating: if SpyFu puts your budget at half your real spend, double its estimate for your competitors too.
- Refresh: rankings update on a rolling schedule, aiming to cycle through most keywords within a month, with higher-volume keywords refreshed more often. Domain-level counts, budget and clicks "may change as you refresh the site."
- Coverage: Google searches in 32 countries. SpyFu says it doesn't have full results outside them.
So the observed part (which ads ran, with what copy, pointing where) is evidence. The click, volume and spend figures are models built on top of it. The check below tests the model side.
Accuracy Check: SpyFu's Free Estimates for soku.ai vs Our Search Console
What we did. On 2026-10-12 we loaded SpyFu's logged-out domain overview for soku.ai. The page said its monthly roll-ups were updated on October 2, 2026, so we compared it with our Google Search Console data for September 2026, web search, both filtered to the United States and unfiltered. SpyFu sells country data as separate views, and we assume the default spyfu.com view reflects Google US, which is why the US column is the main comparison.
What SpyFu showed:
| SpyFu metric (logged-out, 2026-10-12) | Value |
|---|---|
| Organic keywords | 530 |
| Estimated monthly SEO clicks | 197 |
| Paid keywords | 229 |
| Estimated monthly PPC clicks | 1,702 |
| Estimated monthly Google Ads budget | $1,857 |
| "Complete historical data since" | December 2025 |
What Search Console recorded for September 2026:
| Search Console metric | United States | All countries |
|---|---|---|
| Clicks | 530 | 2,924 |
| Queries with impressions (non-anonymized) | 4,045 | 6,770 |
| Queries with at least one click | 114 | 437 |
Keyword by keyword. SpyFu listed five top organic keywords with a rank and estimated monthly clicks. Here's each one next to Search Console's September numbers:
| Keyword | SpyFu rank | SpyFu est. clicks | GSC US clicks | GSC US avg. position |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| soku | 2 | 125 | 35 | 3.6 |
| background generator | 41 | 8 | 0 | 42.7 |
| video flip | 25 | 6 | 0 | 40.0 |
| best ad spy tools | 2 | 4 | 0 (no US impressions) | n/a |
| 1.91:1 in pixels | 2 | 4 | 0 | 4.0 (1 impression) |
What we read from it:
- The total was too low. SpyFu's 197 estimated SEO clicks is about 37% of the 530 US clicks Search Console recorded. Most of our traffic comes from long-tail queries; Search Console logged 114 US queries with at least one click, and SpyFu's 530-keyword sample probably misses many of them.
- Individual keywords were too high. SpyFu credited 14 monthly clicks to two keywords where we averaged around position 40 and received zero, and estimated 125 clicks for our brand term where Search Console shows 35 from the US. Low-position keywords getting clicks is a click-curve artifact. Rank 41 shouldn't earn clicks.
- Some positions didn't match. SpyFu ranked us #2 for "best ad spy tools"; Search Console shows no US impressions for that query in September and an average position of 12 worldwide. Rankings move within a month, so a snapshot can catch a position Search Console averages away. It's still the number a reader of SpyFu would act on.
- The free page contradicted itself. The same logged-out page that showed 229 paid keywords and a $1,857 budget also displayed, under Google Ads History, "We haven't seen this domain recently," and under another section, "We don't see any rankings for this domain." We read these as gated or stale widgets, not SpyFu's real answer, but a logged-out visitor can't tell which part to trust.
- Competitor lists were noisy. The top three organic competitors SpyFu listed for soku.ai were bracesfilter.online, nano-banana-pro.ai and svetrovnatek.cz. We don't consider any of them a competitor.
Caveats, plainly: this is one small, young domain (SpyFu's own history for it starts in December 2025) and one month. Small sites get the noisiest estimates from any third-party tool, and a large advertiser with thousands of ranking keywords may look much closer. SpyFu's period may not line up exactly with a calendar month. And we didn't test the paid side. What the check does show is SpyFu's own advice in practice: the numbers are a relative signal, and you should calibrate them against data you own before acting on them.
Where SpyFu Is Strong
- Price per row. Unlimited results and exports on Pro + AI at $89 a month billed yearly is the lowest price for unlimited exports among the tools we priced for the alternatives page. The closest is Semrush's Advertising toolkit Base, which lists unlimited Google Ads exports at $99 a month.
- Ad history. 10+ years of Google ad history, with cached SERP evidence, is the best reason to buy it. Seeing which ad copy a competitor kept running for two years tells you more than any spend estimate.
- Low-risk trial. A 30-day money-back guarantee, no contracts and cancellation by email, chat or phone.
- Team pricing. Five users included on Team / Agency for $187 a month billed yearly.
Where It Falls Short
- Google search only. No documented Microsoft Advertising, YouTube, display, Meta or TikTok coverage, and 32 countries.
- Estimates read like facts. Clicks and budgets are shown as single numbers. On our domain they were off by a factor of 2.7 in total, and wrong in opposite directions at the keyword level.
- Basic is thin. No ad history, no API and a 10,000-row cap. For most PPC work, Pro + AI is the real entry plan.
- Research ends at the export. Pro + AI includes pre-built Google Ads campaigns and templates, but launching, testing and reading results happen in Google Ads, not SpyFu.
Who It Fits
Good fit: Google Ads managers and agencies who want competitor keyword and ad copy history, export heavily, and already calibrate third-party estimates against their own accounts; small teams who can use Team / Agency's five included seats.
Poor fit: advertisers whose competitors spend mostly on Meta, TikTok, YouTube or display; teams that will act on the spend and click estimates without checking them; anyone who needs one lookup a quarter, for whom Google's free tools and SpyFu's own logged-out view are enough.
If the gap is acting on the research rather than gathering it, the last group on the alternatives page covers tools that build and launch campaigns, including Soku, an AI ads agent that researches competitor keywords and ads, writes and generates the creative, and runs tests on Meta, Google, TikTok and ChatGPT Ads with your approval. It isn't a keyword database and won't replace SpyFu's history or exports.
Verdict
| Area | Rating |
|---|---|
| Value for money | Strong on Pro + AI annual and Team / Agency; Basic is limited |
| Google search ad history | Strong: 10+ years, with cached evidence |
| Estimate accuracy (our one-domain check) | Weak for a small domain: total too low, individual keywords too high |
| Channel coverage | Narrow: Google search, 32 countries |
| Trial and cancellation | Strong: 30-day money-back, no contracts |
SpyFu is worth it if you treat it as a record of what competitors ran on Google, plus a rough model of how much it earned them. It's a poor buy if you want the model to be exact.
